Jong oh

Jong Oh’s Minimalist works are visual haikus addressing the “the sound of space”. Responding to the nuanced configuration of each site, Jong constructs spatial structures by suspending and interconnecting a limited selection of materials: rope, chains, fishing wire, wooden and metal rods, and painted threads. Within these paradoxical limits- constituted by three-dimensionality and two-dimensionality, consummation and destruction- the viewer’s experience becomes a meditation on the whim of human perception. Conflating Western Minimalism with Eastern Mono-ha sensibilities, Oh addresses the universal, demonstrating how space can be reconsidered with sublime consideration.

Jong Oh (B. 1981, Mauritania) grew up between Spain and South Korea. Jong Oh earned his BFA from Hongik University in Seoul and  his MFA from School of Visual Art in New York. Jong has exhibited extensively in the U.S., Korea, Mexico and in Europe. His work belongs to  numerous Public Collections including the Maxine & Stuart Frankel Foundation in Michigan (US) and the Kablanc Otazu Foundation in Navarra (Spain). Jong has been the subject of Solo Exhibitions at Galerie Krinzinger, Vienna; Jochen Hempel, Berlin; Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul; Sabrina Amrani Gallery, Madrid, and Lora Reynolds Gallery, Austin.
